Mary and John Goldsworthy had 6 children, born in Shaldon between 1790 and 1806.   In 1801 Shaldon had a population of 585.

Pigot's Directory of 1844 described Shaldon as "... small village on the southern bank of the Teign opposite Teignmouth.   Shaldon is seated nearly under the lofty promotory called the 'Ness;' it is pleasant village, and has become the residence of many respectable merchants and private families, whose taseful mansions, scatered around on beautiful sites, embellish the vicinage.'

Mary and John's sons John Goldsworthy and William Goldsworthy were mariners who sailed mostly to Newfoundland;   daughter Jane Goldsworthy was a grocer.   They lived in Shaldon all their lives.
